He served as a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses for over thirty years. ==Background== Crawford was born at an unknown date, possibly in the 1680s, to George and Abigail Mason Crawford. Some materials state that he was born in Portsmouth, England but it is generally accepted that he was born in Norfolk County. Both of his parents died while he was still a child and in September 1699 their immigrant grandfather made them his principal heirs.
